Yes, there is a 30-day waiting period in place.
When will my plan become effective?
Coverage begins the 1st day of the month following 30 days of employment.
When will I receive my insurance card?
Medica will try to ensure you receive your insurance card in the mail prior to your effective date. However, the timing doesn’t always allow for that. If you need your insurance card prior to receiving it in the mail, contact ESSG’s Benefits Team for assistance.
When will deductions start coming out of my paycheck?
Premiums are collected a month in advance. If necessary, premiums will be doubled up until you have paid one month in advance.
How do I cancel my plan?
If you’re eligible to cancel your plan, you will need to complete a change form. Contact ESSG’s Employee Benefits Team for assistance.
What is a qualifying life event (QLE)?
A qualifying life event (QLE) is a change in your life circumstances that may allow you to enroll in health insurance outside of the annual open enrollment period. QLEs typically involve changes in your household, employment status, or residence.
Some examples of QLEs:

- Marriage or divorce
- Birth or adoption of a child
- Losing health insurance coverage due to job loss or a change in employment status
- Gaining new insurance outside of your employer
- Becoming eligible for Medicare or Medicaid, or losing eligibility for Medicaid
- Turning 26 and losing coverage under your parent's health insurance plan
